Once you've watched The Abyss you will want to beat whoever inspired James Cameron to make Avatar a franchise to death. Imagine a world where he spent his talent making blue-collar-grunt-in-high-stake-situations movies with the state of the art tech. Ok, for real, it was at most mediocre. It could have been AT LEAST 30 minutes shorter. And it could have been done by shaving down each scene, all of which were drawn out. But even then, they lacked in writing and cinematrography.

And that is no matter if they were action, emotional or thrilling sequences. My favourite part was when the navy seal who has been in the movie for 5 minutes, whose face we never clearly saw, shows up after having been in coma for an hour and saves the entire plot.

The entire plot is thin. And we see the N.T.I.s too little. That is the weirdest thing. The special effects are beautiful, they are mystic and a super creative concept. And they are barely in the movie. I saw it as a kid and even then it was boring. But it could have been a mediocre down point in Cameron's career. Instead we are gonna have a dozen avatar rehashes.
