I’m also weary of software based hardware, but it’s kind of hard to escape these days. At least it isn’t slop-based. Yet…

@sknob@mamot.fr totally. I've been burned super hard by several hardware devices that are mostly software based that have absolutely sucked. At this point, my soft rule is that if I can't access everything I want on the hardware, I really shouldn't buy it.
