@amyworrall@mastodon.social I mean, my example was a bit sneaky. Color names specifically are a very cultural construct (some languages/cultures don't have names for some colors, or have names for colors that English doesn't have a name for). For tennis balls specifically, a lot of people would claim they're green. But also, it's not too uncommon to find a group of people who say weird things in unison. If you'd ask "is my measles vaccine safe?", you'd get very different answers from a "science" and an "antivax" subreddit, for example. Having context of where the information came from is important in a lot of cases - and not only do LLMs lose that context, a lot of them, especially ChatGPT, actually have a cultural image of being "trustworthy", so, uhm.

@denschub@mastodon.schub.social yeah, I'm aware of the colour cultural stuff. Japanese has blue apples and blue traffic lights. Welsh has a word that's pretty much "nature coloured" which encompasses the colour of grass and the colour of the sky. I was mainly getting at my own self doubt in those circumstances. I'd go into a state of "something is wrong here, the world isn't making sense. I'd better shut up for a bit and work out if people are being mean to me or not.” Which is not sometthing an LLM could do!
