  Tying my brain in knots trying to figure out a sync logic issue. I've got repeating tasks, wherein the new instances of the task are created by a background job when the relevant criteria are true.   Does anyone know what percentage of data centres use fresh water for cooling (as opposed to some kind of closed loop system or non-water-based cooling)? And if that percentage is different for new builds vs established data centres?

  @neil I have the vaguest of memories of doing that. My childhood phone number was Bridgemere 347, and I'm pretty sure that there was a local code of 85 to be able to direct dial it from some areas…

  I wish there were a Mac browser that was just Safari in every way, apart from it had a proper customisable toolbar with separate non-combined buttons for functions like reader mode and hide distracting items.

  Got a user request for templates in Octavo (my Mac app for PDF imposition). Do you guys think I should build on top of the "Stationary Pad" finder flag? Do any of you actually use that? Advantages of using it, it'd handle the open-as-new-document flow for me. But the disadvantage is, I couldn't set a separate icon or extension for the template files. #appkit #macdev #BuildInPublic

  Trying something out: told an AI to help with a refactor, but not write any code for me. Instead, it should prompt me for each place I'll need to update, and check my work. (I told it not to write code snippets for me to copy and paste either.) I'm hoping this'll solve the thing I hate most about refactors (worrying about missing something, holding the holistic list of changes in my head), but make sure I fully internalise all the changes to the codebase.

  Because I am very susceptible to nerd sniping: I just built a converter for ThunderScan image files. ThunderScan was a scanner that sat inside an ImageWriter dot-matrix printer: https://www.folklore.org/Thunderscan.html Anyhow, Photoshop 1.0 could read the file format. So I used that as a reference for documenting the format (with a bit of AI help), and built a Swift tool to convert them to PNGs.
