Just found this interview with some old volunteers that joined the Abe Lincoln XV Int'l Brigade in Catalonia 1937. It was recorded for Pacifica Radio in 1971, nice Pete Seeger soundtrack, too.
I believe all four vets are my New Yorker forebears, but my fave is Maury Kolow from Brownsville, who talks about labor organizing and running in gangs on Pitkin Ave during the Depression and how they decided to join the fight against fascism.
¡No pasarán! 🏴
