@splitshockvirus@mstdn.starnix.network I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as "custom ROM" is in fact writing to EEPROM or flash memory unless you're de-soldering a physical ROM chip and soldering a new ROM on. As ROM is Read Only Memory, it's not possible to modify or customize such. If you have PROM, you can really only program a certain amount of bits permanently in each byte, thus not really qualifying for "custom". For programming an EPROM, I would probably refer to such as "clearing with UV light and programming". I would really refer to such as flashing an EEPROM instead - as that process consists of utilizing a chip-external programmer to erase and reprogram blocks. If flash memory is in use, it'll probably be best to refer to such as "installing", as the process is merely deleting existing files and copying the files of a proprietary version of Android onto a filesystem, with the flash memory controller doing the rest for you without any extra work from you.
