#ScribesAndMakers May 23: If you were going to tell a story about a #cryptid, which would you choose? One of my many unfinished projects has a cryptid of sorts as a main character---he's both a lycanthrope and an escaped alien-hybrid lab creation, whose lycanthrope form is basically the full alien, who are based on sapient, horse-sized squirrels from a planet where the Giant Sequoias would be small-average trees. I'm better at making worlds and species than plotlines, though. Of cryptids that are known from extant stories, I have sometimes thought it would be fun to write up a Kemetic Pagan take (which was actually my first instinctual reaction when I heard of it) on the canine-headed people who are supposed to haunt cemeteries in my hometown and a few others. There does seem to have been an actual idea that a possible afterlife path for some people was to become a jackal-headed psychopomp, assisting Anubis in the guidance of deceased souls, thus meaning people are mistaking the equivalent of an angelic visitation for a monster.
