Its an evolutionary perk probably but the older you get, the more you want to let it engulf you. I assume, get old enough and you can't stop embracing the retcon even if you want to. Whether its a cause or a result of senility i don't know.

Well... I've seen/lived proof that grandparents, for instance, view children differently than parents & sometimes want to "correct" anything they feel they screwed up on their own kids through their grandkids. It benefits everyone involved, though... let them.
