@Alejandro_P@mathstodon.xyz @einsiedlerspiel@todon.nl FWIW: how steep the learning curve is really depends on how much of the advanced features of your existing editor you use. I think the mistake people often make is to start out with someone elses, fully-decked out vim config, which throws a million things at you. But learning the very basics of editing/moving etc. is quite okay - and from there one can go as deep as wanted/needed.

    @gedankenstuecke@scholar.social @Alejandro_P@mathstodon.xyz yeah i don't want to speak too confidently on the new user experience, because i'm really not. But i also find the difficulty of just using emacs somewhat overstated. (though i think all these 'starter' frameworks that get recommended ironically reinforce the impression of difficulty by layering so much complexity on).
