@gatesvp@mstdn.ca Last year after the White House ambush of Zelenskyy, I said that the US had 6 months to change course or it will be ruined for generations. I have not changed my view. Every day the MAGA regime's actions bring the USA closer to collapse. Most of the rest of the world will not react decisively enough until they are dragged into the US's malaise. 2030s is going to be 'interesting'.

@adavid@aus.social @gatesvp@mstdn.ca I don't think the current mess here can last until 2030 without blowing up. This is first and foremost, Trump cannot legally hold power past 2028, but won't leave power peacefully unless he dies in his sleep from a heart attack or a stroke. If THAT happens, Vance probably would not have the kind of support it takes to launch a successful coup attempt after defeat in the 2028 election. That could result in a return to the status quo ante, a "merchant's democracy" of the rich. Otherwise, Trump does J6 II and this time around may well succeed. At that point US "democracy" formally ends and the warming civil war probably goes all the way hot. This could mean blue states seceding, communities defended by local militias, the works. That could completely trash the economy expecially if state border controls go up in response to secessions.
