“Cool” is the opiate of the classes! Overengineering is also bad engineering!
And, to get back to judging cultural cohesion, regulatory and cooperative infrastructure might be a _better_ measure than Big Projects. No kickbacks, no lobbyists.

@clew@ecoevo.social @cstross@wandering.shop @gatesvp@mstdn.ca The LHC was not *that* big: it cost a mere 4½ ballrooms. I would say the channel tunnel would qualify but I also think SEPTA is valid. Point in case, I think the conversation, and the various things people will consider or not are more interesting than what is chosen in the end. Even if you jiggle the criteria left and right, I still don't see much for the US…
