(2/2) I remember a lot of the left were suspicious that National's settlement process was a scheme to further assimilate independent Māori community organising into capitalism. And in the process, corporatise and sell off more public commons by stealth. Does this analysis stand up in hindsight, absolutely not. But I have no shame for having those concerns as a young green anarchist - not despite but *because of* my strong solidarity with tangata whenua - and I don't think there's any need to.

    Well, I can only hope you weren’t one of those standing up in public and speaking at length about how Māori were untrustworthy and incompetent as environmental managers - because that’s the ‘discourse’ I recall from some at those meetings at the time.
