What association is it you object to?
> gimp
> /gĭmp/
> **noun**
> 1. A narrow flat braid or rounded cord of fabric used for trimming.
> 2. Spirit; _pep_.
> 3. A limp or a limping gait.
> 4. A person who limps.
> 5. A narrow ornamental fabric of silk, woolen, or cotton, often with a metallic wire, or sometimes a coarse cord, running through it; -- used as trimming for dresses, furniture, etc.
> **intransitive verb**
> 1. To walk with a limp.
> **transitive verb**
> 1.To notch; to indent; to jag.
> **adjective**
> 1. Smart; spruce; trim; nice.
> 2. Neat; trim; delicate; slender; handsome; spruce; elegant.
Granted, the fourth definition, as a limping person, could be mildly disabilist but I think it's just a case of an old English word becoming two words in different regions (Limp / Gimp).
