A computational process is indeed much like a sorcerer’s idea of a spirit. It cannot be seen or touched. It is not composed of matter at all. However, it is very real.

thanks to everyone that attended the first lecture! we will return on thursday, 5/14 at 8pm PDT. i actually goofed slightly -- the reading i posted for lecture 1 (up through 1.2.4 in the text) actually covers both tonight's lecture as well as thursday's. see y'all then ~~~
