I got through that quick enough to grind out the following level. The end trick (and troll) is brutal and I'm unashamed to say I dropped another save state to practice that jump. Here it is in a proper completion. I'll throw shells at a wall all day now. Ask me to shelljump while hitting one specific block... Ugh.

And here's what happens if you don't stop the vine in time. Anyone who has watched "sky tree" kaizo levels is probably familiar with the mechanic. The vine overwriting the spikes when you first hit the block also hints at what vines can do.
