@driusan@doomscroller.social If it's just a button I can ignore or a config I can turn off then it's only mildly annoying. If the source is closed so I can't build it on the steam machine there's no way forward for me even if I was prepared to accept the closed source code. (Which I am not).

@pre@boing.world They are both bad things to be avoided but in the web browser space they can not both be avoided. From my point of view, on a fundamental level, closed source is a misguided attempt of capitalists to keep a competitive advantage for their product. The downsides are that you can't build on Steam or change things you don't like and security researchers can't easily audit the code directly. Those are all bad things. On the other hand, generative AI is fundamentally an attempt to destroy labour and entrench fascism. In doing so, it also uses enough power to reverse any marginal gains we've had over the last decades and ensure climate change is going to be much, much worse. Our children and generations after will suffer the consequences. Those are worse things. I think reasonable people can agree that they're both bad but disagree on why or how bad they are, so I'm not really trying to convince you and have no problem with you thinking closed source is worse, but that's why I think gen AI is worse.
