The earlier D/CAS was beaten by 1.2M 5.25" and 1.44 3.5" (1986). QIC/Travan/DDS for tape. The only successful single=side 4-track use for the compact cassette was home analogue recording. Tascam 144 in 1979, World's first four-track recorder based on a standard compact cassette tape. Later they did an 488 in 1991. 8 tracks on a compact cassette. Never popular.
