@MattHodges people that actively follow my local newspaper on Facebook will, without fail, complain about their paywall.
A common comment is “why bother sharing the article if you require a subscription”.
They aren’t the only game in town. There are multiple other local and regional news orgs… but their coverage is less local or lower quality.
If you suggest a subbing, half say the reporting is low quality, and yet here they are again, demanding to see the reporting for free.

@MattHodges@mastodon.social And yet others will say they need to “get with the times” and move to an advertising supported model. I sometimes wonder if all these “free” social media platforms have poisoned people’s expectations around what you pay for online.
