@dvandal@infosec.exchange @davidgerard@circumstances.run @genehack@dementedandsadbut.social one of the many, many rambling detours I had to cut from my own recent genAI piece just to keep it under novella length was an extended diatriabe about how using these tools might be making you dumber, but this anecdote is scary, because it is so much worse than even the most catastrophized case I was going to present. It makes me seriously worried for the people using these tools.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run @genehack@dementedandsadbut.social @glyph@mastodon.social in the right environment, it is totally fixable I think for a lot of people. Ballpark 80%+ would readily be redirected to actually tackling the learning challenges. My last workplace was not the right environment and actively made it worse by *really* leaning into it. That said; my brother works in higher education and the way he describes it is with a lot of really negative words. And while it’ll be job security for those of us who do actively practice active learning, there is gonna be a really noticeable skill gap between those who took school seriously and those who copy-paste their way to their degree.
