@glyph@mastodon.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run @genehack@dementedandsadbut.social You’re really right in this. I think the reason why this scenario really stuck with me so hard is because prior to leaning way to hard on ChatGPT for everything, he had very clear growth trajectories and so forth and was a delight to work with generally. But him effectively getting left behind because he fell into the FOMO/hype cycle really soiled any goodwill I had for him. And honestly? It sucks. If I wasn’t so directly impacted and was a third party, I would definitely feel more pity vs frustration about it. Because it’s just a huge disservice to him and ultimately any company he works for now or in the future, because he’s taking shortcuts vs learning and up-skilling.

@dvandal@infosec.exchange @davidgerard@circumstances.run @genehack@dementedandsadbut.social one of the many, many rambling detours I had to cut from my own recent genAI piece just to keep it under novella length was an extended diatriabe about how using these tools might be making you dumber, but this anecdote is scary, because it is so much worse than even the most catastrophized case I was going to present. It makes me seriously worried for the people using these tools.
