@johl@mastodon.xyz In fact, much of what became known about the jet stream was discovered DURING WW2, 20 years after Wasaburō's reports. It required enough experimentation, and thousands of sorties by countless warplanes supplied that data. By 1944, US meteorologists finally had enough data to product actually useful military information about it. Perhaps ironically, that knowledge was used to plain bombing sorties of Japan -- sorties which might have otherwise failed, with planes ditching in the ocean.
