@johl@mastodon.xyz While Wasaburō is correctly credited with the first direct evidence of the jet stream, but it had been speculated since the mid-19C, and its effects had been tracked worldwide after the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883. He didn't 'discover' it, but instead found evidence of what was already widely speculated. The military knew about it, but not enough was known about it at the time to make use of it. Wasaburō himself tried and failed to. (Though a lot was learned from his efforts.)
