@phf@tabletop.social I stand corrected! For some reason I thought there were three branches of Basic D&D. I might've been thinking of OD&D or the modified Rules Cyclopedia.
I have listened to a lot of history of D&D, for entertainment value, but might not have even retained as much as I might've thought.
The youtube channel I mentioned is fascinating to me, but his preferred playstyles are definitely not my own. Which is fine, a fun game is a fun game regardless of edition/ruleset!

@thorgrit@tabletop.social @phf@tabletop.social You weren't wrong, if Holmes Basic is included in the "D&D Basic" list. **edit:** I should add I think this is the case - I sent my copy of Holmes basic to my friend, so I can't look to make sure but I remember looking at it and thinking it was a lot like the original D&D rules.
