@wendinoakland@beige.party I love this, but it's also hard, because the people who most need to understand this are middlingly-qualified white men who were at some point passed over in favor of exceptionally-qualified minorities, and who have built their self-image on the understanding that this was actually a moment when they, an exceptionally-qualified white man, were passed over in favor of a middlingly-qualified minority-hire.
Internalizing this understanding of DEI means reconstructing your self-image in a very painful way.

@ojensen@hachyderm.io Yeah, sadly I understand. It’s very hard to see oneself as average or worse, when there’s a ready option to believe that you’re inherently better, despite all the evidence in the world.
