@lkanies@hachyderm.io That is out of control. The name of that alphabet requires those marks. Its name is Chữ Quốc ngữ. I've seen Chữ-nôm script, too. Sounds like you know this, lol. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_writing_in_Vietnam

    @sayrer@mastodon.social I don’t know the specifics, but I know that diacritics are not decorative. And with as many as Vietnamese uses… they obviously matter. I wish it were a surprise that “the paper of record” does not support them. (FWIW, I got to see my soccer team, Arsenal, go through this when they hired a player, Özil, whose name their font supplier for shirts could not spell.)
