Fantastic news. The @knmi@social.overheid.nl , which is the the Dutch national weather forecasting service, is allowed to ... forecast the weather. For a long time commercial apps like #Buienradar prevented the KNMI - a public body - to show radar predictions of rain clouds in its app. They claimed it would amount to inappropriate intervention of the state in "their" market. Here it is the @DeutscherWetterdienst@social.bund.de with its App Warnwetter. Warning is OK, but for predictions, it was ruled, they have to charge. So they charge, 2,49€ once, not a subscription.🤣

@MishaVelthuis@social.edu.nl @knmi@social.overheid.nl @BartVerheggen@social.edu.nl The extremely ironic thing is that the Belgian KMI app has had coverage for the entire Benelux for a few years now. If you're in the Netherlands, it shows you the Dutch radar data and KNMI forecast for free. The app is non-commercial. So a foreign weather service app already had it for quite some time without anyone making a fuss about that. EDIT: I just realized that it doesn't do the extrapolation/prediction when in NL, but it's has been more than usable for me either way.
