@donaldball@triangletoot.party That's definitely part of it, but I feel like we're actually catching the back half of that: that culture of catering to the elite has just translated into routine, bullshit corruption at the bottom. The woman in question had no influence, no money, no successful business, and the adjectives used to describe her in the report are "weird," "unpleasant," and "persistent." Now it's all just a piggy bank.

  • @zeblarson@hcommons.social Yeah, exactly. We're a generation into that politically motivated corruption and the rot has spread. I have a rich set of conflicting feelings about the American university system, but on aggregate I think it's clearly been beneficial, and between the disinvestment by the governments, the corrupt administrations, and the new frontal assaults on federal grants, right on the heels of the COVID disruption, I worry about what we may be losing.
