John T. Josh (or Jaunty Josh as I would nickname him) has written a book that I believe everyone should read entitled A Theory of System Justification. "According to system justification theory, people tolerate and justify existing forms of social and economic inequality to the extent that doing so addresses underlying epistemic, existential, and relational needs to manage uncertainty, threat, and social deviance or discord."

@splitradix@assemblag.es I found that really interesting, thank you! Turns out the Wikipedia page is good on this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_justification_theory It immediately made me think of the concept of the kyriarchy in modern feminism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyriarchy When I am looking at the world and thinking “whyyy” like a 5 year old, turns out the answer is often “because we are silly primates easily exploited by other, nastier primates”
