No big deal you might say but, as I walked through different areas, I tried to look through the lens of a tourist, as there were plenty about. There's a lot of building work going on in Fleet St which hopefully will be improvements. Covent Garden is busy but pretty, but Leicester Square, to me as an infrequent visitor, didn't impress. I do have good memories of it - watched the film Chariots of Fire there, and Return of the Jedi, back in the 1980s.

I can remember sitting in the park area, reading a book before queueing for tickets and I recounted this on a different social media platform. Some responded agreeing, it has gone downhill, but a couple snorted, "When was this then, the 1800s?" Along with the usual "it's always been a sh***ole area, get over it" comments. To my surprise, one of the age-related comments was from a journalist at the @guardian@mstdn.social , which I subscribe to - at the moment. I feel a letter coming on......

Guardian journalist appears to be backtracking and has apologised but not for suggesting I was born in the 1800's.
