@LJ it’s also legit, in a Lyme disease endemic area, to go ahead and do a course of doxy instead of waiting for test results (if you’re in early infection you might get a false negative blood result) speaking as one who lived on LI where it was safe to assume if you had an embedded deertick, you had Lyme exposure, and it’s way way easier to nip the infection of a spirochete in the bud. (I did this for myself and my then 5 year old, over the foot dragging of her pediatrician - it was her only antibiotic treatment as a child and well worth it imo - my test did come back positive but hers was negative, luckily my doctor was appalled at the pediatrician and went ahead and prescribed it for us both) Also my mom had borrelia miyamotoi in upstate NY about ten years ago, but tested negative for Lyme (borrelia burgdorferi) several times. And doxy is very low risk for most people compared to the complications of any of those borrelia diseases. I hope your doctor is reasonable about this! And you feel better soon!
