I think I will. I remember when they made a tv show out of it, all I heard people talk about was the first episode, and that it had something to do with the cultural revolution. I assumed it was a show about impact of communism in China on academics, and so I avoided it.

i don't watch adaptions of books usually, but it does start with the cultural revolution; however, it doesn't glorify it, instead it sets up the primary conflict of the first book
