There's a massive gap in the left that I'm seeing rn, where many of the most radical among us seem almost unfazed at what's happening the United States, while the more centre-left progressives are bordering on hysteria. I think it comes down to the fact that many #marxists, #communists, and #anarchists don't see what's going on as unprecedented whereas many progressives, younger #socialists do. I think depending on what facts you highlight and what you focus on, there's truth to this. (Cont).

  • Globally, the US is already associated with death, oppression, and violence. And within its borders, its poor, queer, women, and racialised citizens all experience more violence from the police, their employers, their landlord, and other facets of #American society. Furthermore, on a broader scope, this is far more in line with 300+ years of American history. The last 70 years of expanding Civil Rights and political freedoms is a fluke when you know about things like the history of American immigration policy until the 1950s, or the trail of tears, or the failure of Reconstruction after the Civil War.
