@pavsmith@theblower.au yeah, I’m also a bit salty (pardon the pun) having grown up in a declining fishing town, an industry that got absolutely zero help from govt as it disappeared.

"Despite some interest in expanding capacity for energy security reasons, analysts consider building new refineries difficult to justify commercially, citing the high cost and long development time." plus given Oz is almost out of crude reserves, onshore refining to protect against global supply chains makes zero sense if... you rely on those same global supply chains to provide you with refinable crude! https://archive.ph/VXK18
