Missing from this post is a suggestion that users compare the speed of their work using middle-click paste with the speed of their work without, but I didn't want to be negative toward the feature because that's not what this is about. The important thing to understand is that nobody's taking the feature away from anyone. If you actually read what GNOME contributors have to say about the feature, you'll find a LOT of nuance. The same can't be said of the haters.

@vtrlx@mastodon.social Sure, I can read what GNOME contributors have to say, but where do I go to read what GNOME users have to say? KDE bugtracker? They aren't allowed to reply on GNOME's one. It's kinda wild how at the same time GNOME Foundation complains how users don't trust it, while at the same time throwing pearls like this.

@vtrlx@mastodon.social The argument that "people used it because it was in X and now X is deprecated" is silly. The engine behind the feature does not matter. What matters is if you are breaking people's workflows? I use middle-click-paste often as a longtime Linux user. I don't want gnome to change it because gnome seems to exert an outsized pull on Linux UI trends, and I'm worried that more DE's would disable it.
