This can be using routes with different preferences, or also using profiles monitoring links. You can set very short ppp timeouts to switch quickly. You can even bond multiple links of some sorts (A&A offer bonded dual DSL lines). It can even do multiple L2TP to another FireBrick with high availability (dual packet transmission via the links so zero downtime on failure).
