@bennett@assemblag.es I was just reading about that, can’t say I’m at all surprised.
It’s very similar to a change they made and admitted to last year where Waymos will now slowly inch forward into intersections to make a turn even when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk. Which is actively illegal in California, though a large share of human drivers do the same. And their justification is that’s the behavior people expect from a car, so it’s actually more appropriate to do it than not.
How they got away with admitting they programmed their cars to drive illegally, I’ll never understand.
I can’t wait until June when they can start being cited by police and traffic enforcement in California.
