@scarlet@plush.city I honestly know that feeling. I was in Germany in 1990 so my first memories are actually from Germany. When I visited France in 2015 ( my second choice of countries ) and I was getting on the plane at the end to fly back to the USA it didn't feel like I was flying home but rather away from it.

@GoldenRetrieverGF@blahaj.zone @scarlet@plush.city I heard something similar from an American visitor to an IT conference. "I got off the train in Brussels and people were smiling" not the fake friendliness, but no jaws clenched, no fear, going about their business being content.
