@scarlet@plush.city @soph@grrl.me that's understandable. For me it's really hard because I bought it all hook line and sinker when I was young.
I still believe in those "American" values. I just realise those values are in no way reflected by the American culture. It was all a smokescreen.

@BriBear@blahaj.zone @soph@grrl.me That's fair enough, and I think that people can come from fairly different backgrounds and reach the similar conclusion. Growing up poor, black, and southern - the U.S.'s history of violent oppression of my community made me realize, even when I was a small child, that there were multiple different versions of the "United" States. I didn't even get the smokescreen. That's why I ended up being a socialist. I fought for changes, but I now realize this history endangers me here.
