@Linkletter@mastodon.social Thanks for surfacing this story! It's especially concerning now when ed tech providers are continuing to collect more (and more granular) data about student activities. This data can be useful for assessment, but is it worth it to hoard so much personal information when we've seen these systems broken into time and again? And, more importantly, why are universities actively investing in these data collection activities rather than protecting their students?

@OpenAccessElder@hcommons.social @Linkletter@mastodon.social fully agree - schools and universities shouldn’t use and most definitely not force students to use closed source surveillance capitalism based software! ever! This is the place to teach about the risks and dangers of such systems rather than pushing pupils directly into the cyber-cages of techno-feudals, as Yanis calls them.
