@benni@social.tchncs.de @jenniferplusplus@tech.lgbt Free software is a huge community in itself, many members of which have day jobs working for large technology companies. I don't think it's fair to compare a well-compensated programmer's hobbies to an artist's primary source of income.

@benni@social.tchncs.de Free Software is mostly different through being free licensed. You can get paid for creating free software. I have been (though I could not live from that). Free licensing ensures that you cannot exert undue control over others. Some can live from free licensed culture, but still far too few. And I’d much prefer seeing artists create art for their fans (some of them paying) than seeing them create others' art in service of DRM-locked Disney movies. @jenniferplusplus@tech.lgbt

@benni@social.tchncs.de @jenniferplusplus@tech.lgbt Sure they sell their "art" - there's no shortage of FOSS with corporate versions. And people who work on free software use that to find paid gigs too. Shaming artists for trying to find customers is akin to demanding that all FOSS contributors remain anonymous.
