    @HoneyBadgerSupreme@noauthority.social Socialism is a system in which government handouts exceed economic production. The difference is made up with stolen wealth (hence why socialism only begins in nations that were prosperous under some other system), and always lasts until the pool of wealth is depleted, at which point, the system inevitably collapses on itself. How long this takes is a function of GDP, starting wealth, and the excess and corruption by the ruling class. The most insidious part is that this often takes a generation or two - long enough for the population to forget how to be self-sufficient.
