@marioguzman This touched a nerve for me. This is one of the top-three things that frustrates me about the modern Apple. Apple used to sweat the details. Were they always perfect? Of course not! But, it was obvious the cared. It just seems like that's all gone nowadays. Maybe it's seen as an unnecessary cost. Maybe it's all in sacrifice to the annual release schedule. But, whatever the cause, it's sad to see.

  • @overlordspock@masto.ai @marioguzman@mastodon.social My strong suspicion is that there are still plenty of people that care, but the design leadership is awful. I also bet Liquid Glass was a late pivot to try to distract from not even being able to ship AI features from *last* year so teams across Apple are struggling just to get anything that ships, much less have it be actually good.

@overlordspock@masto.ai It’s not any one thing squeezing out P3s: •Need to be on stage for WWDC: big splashy features. •Small teams (for culture, or for lack of budget): limited bandwidth even as features grew in scale. •Promotions to Director/VP: big projects even if dubious utility. •Increasingly screenshot-oriented design reviews: overlook dynamic behavior. •Mutually-silo’ed design and engineering: slower feedback loops. (Not exhaustive, not meant to escape blame.) @marioguzman@mastodon.social
