@kbm0@mastodon.social @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us I agree that plenty of it is structural. But also seems clear to me that people are getting together to do one thing, and say another. At best, it shows that most political parties are subject to the same forces, are going in one direction, and absolutely cannot be trusted.

    @robj@mastodon.social @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Or they think voters won't buy certain choices. There is a lot of talk of "tough choices" but that is usually code for "we decided we couldn't change anything". I tend to think we have been heavily consumerised, so that when people have money, they very strongly resent giving it to the state. Of course we definitely should tax billionaires and big corps, but they will ferret a lot of money offshore and make threats, so ultimately we will be left with taxing ourselves.
