There is a lot of talk of "tough choices" but that is usually code for "we decided we couldn't change anything". I tend to think we have been heavily consumerised, so that when people have money, they very strongly resent giving it to the state. Of course we definitely should tax billionaires and big corps, but they will ferret a lot of money offshore and make threats, so ultimately we will be left with taxing ourselves.

    @kbm0@mastodon.social @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us I don't think voters really come into it. The votes all safely land in broadly the same political area anyway, that's the point. Yes, tough choices are usually "we're taking something from you and giving it to someone else".
