I think we need to better understand what we want from the average computer user when we say we want to teach them computer literacy. Because that informs how much we teach them for it to be considered as such. The iPhone was important in abstracting much of the nitty gritty of computing into something the average person could understand how to use. The average fedizen and computer nerds in general know a lot more about computer management. Abstractions can sometimes be annoying because they know what kind of control is possible and don't enjoy losing that. Everyone else, well, you can't miss what you never knew. There is an argument to be had regarding the crowd that calls IT for basic issues that could be fixed by them taking a five minute lesson, or getting frustrated because they underestimate the effort it takes to do something.
