@knord@mastodon.social Is it though? In Inkscape our policy for compatibility has always been making it possible to read the files so rendering is maintained. When there's a hole in the spec... and in svg there are many. We have our own output which still renders correctly, but is not editable in other programs. If we held ourselves hostage to Firefox, Chrome, Illustrator and all supposed industry, we'd be serious trouble of not going anywhere. An ooxml can have an svg image inside it right?

    @doctormo@floss.social For sure there are mechanisms to embed nonstandard content in OOXML that applications that don't support it will ignore. But it's important to maintain interoperability, in that features that break it will generally be considered lower priority. Given that there is a lot to do and not a lot of people to do it, such features are unlikely to get done.
