@lina@vt.social this makes sense intuitively! afaik, the secret sauce to face ID is an infra-red camera- you could slap any old face tracking algorithm (albeit calibrated to those values) and i don't see why you wouldn't get functioning face tracking!
reddit is...doing what they do.

@ari@fedi.arimelody.space My point is it's *not* the IR camera. It works fine with any regular old color camera. Face ID requires the special depth camera, but ARKit tracking is not Face ID and does not work like Face ID. People keep thinking they are somehow connected when they aren't.
