The real challenge is: now that software has eaten the world, we really need to focus on making software have ethically sound foundations. And that is something few people even *want* to hear.
Case in point, the stance of the open source initiative with regards to LLMs is dubious at best:

Note how words such as "harm" or "bias" are nowhere to be seen.

@ZDL@mstdn.social "Use the system for any purpose and without having to ask for permission." That has been a core principle of free software AND open source, and they did not reflect that in their AI definition. As a result, we live in a world where LLMs are used to fuck people over, and this is entirely OSI compliant. The issue was there before. LLMs really, really brought it to light.
