I've heard it called the "peace sign" as it became popular. If the original meaning was "V for Victory", I suppose "peace" isn't too far off from the original meaning.
The current meaning seems to be a generic greeting, similar to a hand-wave.

@DXMacGuffin@metalhead.club Yup, a generic greeting seems the most likely. It would be interesting to survey people using the gesture to discover their intention.
