@TheGreatLlama@kolektiva.social The CA Scrubs don't commonly range up to SW SnohoCo where I am. Pierce Co and south King Co seems to be as far north as they get in the Puget Lowland. This photo shows both birds in lower Icehouse Cyn-San Gabriel Mtns soCal at an elevation of 5000 ft. That's right about where chaparral favored by Scrubs transitions up into coniferous forest favored by Steller's. I was down there May 2022 on a work trip, goofing off with a hike in the mountains.

@brownsbay@pnw.zone Nice, they posed together! I'm on the Columbia river sort of near the coast. We've got a lot more of the scrub jays than we used to, but they seem to stick to the low valleys. My Dad lives a few miles away from me, but at around 400 feet above sea level. He never sees them at his place.
